Contact Igloo

The world of immersive experiences is going through an interesting evolution.

In the past, almost all the focus went on the visual aspects of the experience. Creators and technologists alike were striving for higher resolution, sharper images, and narratives that made use of the entire 360° canvas. But, often, there was the neglect of an important ingredient - sound.

At Igloo, we’ve long advocated the importance of sound to heighten immersion. We’ve already worked with several creators to produce stunning audiovisual experiences (like Axel Drioli, who provided fully-immersive audio design for the award-winning 360° film, The Journey). We’ve also worked on several Shared VR installations featuring ambisonic sound for the Philharmonia Orchestra (including SXSW in Austin, and the VR Soundstage at London’s Royal Festival Hall).

But these events and installations were one-offs - including bespoke set-ups that could be costly and complex to recreate for our wider client base.

Now, in partnership with Sennheiser AMBEO, we’ve developed the ultimate immersive space, which can combine top-end visuals with top-end immersive audio, and is available to all Igloo clients in almost any Igloo space.

As a first step, we’ve installed and calibrated a 9.1 Neumann loudspeaker system into a 6-metre Igloo cylinder, fitted with an acoustically transparent screen. This now resides in our London Shared VR Centre, to give visitors a feel for the true potential of 3D immersive soundscapes.

The set-up has really captured the imagination and has generated a glut of rapturous media coverage (this piece in AV Magazine is a good example). But, as we’ve said before (and will say again), everything rests on the quality of the content. And, right now, we’ve got a paucity of mind-blowing content.

So, if you’re a creator working in immersive sound, we’d absolutely love to hear from you. We’d love to get you into our London office to experience Igloo and AMBEO for yourself, and encourage you to create something truly special. Then, when clients ask us immersive sound, we can wow them with your work, and point them in your direction.
