How to find new, creative ways to use your Igloo? As with any dilemma, it’s great to present it to a completely fresh pair of eyes. The fewer biases, or pre-judgements, the better.
The University of Essex seems to have cracked it. As part of its Innovation Centre, it has a designated digital creative studio, Studio X. Studio X is home to Essex Startups, its University Enterprise Zone -- and an Igloo Shared VR cylinder (that has been affectionately dubbed ‘the 360° Lens’).
The Igloo Shared VR cylinder gives students, startups and entrepreneurs a chance to demonstrate their creativity and visualise ideas, concepts and business plans. And to see what its students can do on a 360° canvas when they put their minds to it, Essex Startups is using holding a £1,000 prize video competition.
There are no holds barred. All entries are welcome:
It can be anything. Our Igloo Shared VR systems are completely content-agnostic. If you can make a picture, presentation or video in 8000x1000 resolution, you can view it in an Igloo.
Essex Startups invited Igloo along to the University of Essex’s Innovation Centre on the 5th of March to help launch the competition. Our Brand and Content Manager, Jonny Keeley, was there to talk to students about the capabilities of the Igloo, how to create content for it and do a Q&A.
Not all the students had used the Igloo before, so it was a great chance to take them inside to show them the wide and varied capabilities of Shared VR.
On our part, it was great to see a range of students show interest -- from data and computer scientists, film students and actors, to alumni entrepreneurs. We’re looking forward to a range of varied, creative, crazy content!
The deadline for the competition is the 5th of May. And to sweeten the prize even more, the winner will have the chance to partner with us. We can’t wait to see what the University of Essex’s students create!
