The Mukaab skyscraper, currently under construction in Saudi Arabia in the New Murabba district, is one of the largest pieces of infrastructure development in all of human history.
A totemic, 400-metre by 400-metre (1,300 x 1,300 feet) cubed building, its design is inspired by the Murabba Palace and once completed, will be the largest building in the world by volume. It is so large that 20 Empire State buildings could comfortably fit inside.
Intended as a hub city, the Mukaab will contain 2 million square meters of floor space with shopping, dining, and cultural offerings. It will also have immersive technology and experiences integrated throughout.
To help deliver this vast infrastructure project, the New Murabba Development Company (NMDC), owned by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), has specially appointed AtkinsRéalis to aid in the design of the New Murabba district and the vast Mukaab skyscraper.
And, in turn, AtkinsRéalis has continued its extensive use of Igloo Vision shared immersive spaces to give its design and delivery teams the tools necessary to complete a project of this scale.
