We’ve had video conferencing on the brain lately. And, for obvious reasons, so too has the rest of the world. One platform in particular, Zoom…
At Igloo, we love to work with and support other innovative, forward-thinking companies. And that’s why we were so pleased to get involved in the recent Nuclear Technology Showcase, led by the design, engineering and project management firm Atkins.
We’ve been in close discussions with Atkins for a few years now, and this seemed like a great opportunity to deepen the partnership. Experts travelled from far and wide, including from the USA, Canada, Japan and Sweden, to learn about the latest developments in the world of nuclear technology. To help with visualising the possibilities, one of our Shared VR cylinders was deployed. And it was used to immerse up to 12 people at a time in a VR tour of a CANDU (Canada Deuterium Uranium) nuclear reactor.
As our own Benn La Bouchardiere pointed out, it showed that Atkins “are not just dipping their toes in the water with this stuff, they are putting both feet in, getting fully immersed and are totally committed to making it happen.”
The whole event was bristling with innovation. Other technologies on show included a HaptX glove prototype (one of only three in the world), a newly launched Advanced Portable Polymer Tester, and Spinionic’s Rotating Bed Reactor technology.
The event was a big success. Global Technology Director for SNC-Lavalin Atkins, Julianne Antrobus, said that Atkins aims to reproduce the event in North America “as the blueprint for how to work with our supply chain partners and generate the same level of interest and more in these regions.”
